The Coveteur: Anna Laub

"FOUNDER; CREATIVE DIRECTOR, PRISM; EDITOR OF O: WOMAN. LONDON

Anna Laub has been in the fashion industry a long time…and she’s come a long way from her days as a teen model. The girl has worked with all the key players: Hussein Chalayan,Conde Nast, The New York Times: T Magazine, The LA Times… the list goes on. The London-bred, girl-about-town has tried her hand at everything from editing mags—she founded the youth culture mag, PURE—to writing for a wide variety of notable publications. Her most recent endeavour? PRISM, her covetable line of eyewear and swimwear. After being fed-up of not being able to find “cool, optical glasses,” Laub set out to make ‘em herself. You know what they say? If you want something done right, do it yourself!

Each pair is inspired (and named after) a different city; and we must say, we’re big fans of Tokyo and Rio! Aside for being picked up by Barney’s, Opening Ceremony, Colette and Dover Street Market, Laub recently collaborated with cult-fave Rachel Comey, providing the eyewear for her N.Y.C show. Talk about spectacle! And she’s got a damn good eye for style. Her love for leopard had us seeing spots for days… but, to be honest, we weren’t complaining. But the real pièce de résistance? Her Alaïa collection. Cher Horowitz would be mega jealous… just saying."

Matches Always Gets It Right

If you follow this blog, you will know I have a huge love for Matches Fashion (it is on matches.com that I compile my wish list).  This shop/ online retailer manage to get it right every time.  They seem to be able to read my mind with what I want to wear: Whether it be the laid back style of Isabel Marant, the quirky yet classy shoes of Carven, or my favourite handbag designer Anya Hindmarch. Matches seem to be on the ball in stocking the best and the new. I subscribe to their emails.  This morning they sent me a suggestion of what to wear to the races.

Now, I have no intention of going to any such races- I wish I had as it sounds like a fun occasion and good excuse to dress up to the nines.  If I were to go to the races (permitted I had all the money in the world to afford this outfit) I would wear something very similar to what Matches has selected here.  Who can beat sunglasses by Linda Farrow for The Row? And as for that Mary Katranzou printed clutch- well she is the British queen of print- again unbeatable.  With this outfit, heads would be sure to turn and gawp  Id just have to make sure to be wearing those Bridget Jones all in one sucky-in body suits underneath- that Sportmax dress doesn't look very forgiving- not to mention VPL's are as sinful as wearing mustard yellow with sunburn.

Style File: A Day at the Cricket

Since being in South Africa I have done some pretty cool things.  One of them was going to watch the South African Protea's (cricket team) play against New Zealand.  The match took place at Newlands Cricket ground. Newlands is just outside of the centre of Cape Town right next to Table Mountain.

To the Cricket I wore: Leather looking leggings (Warehouse)
Purple Converse
Blue and Cream Strip Jumper by Jigsaw
Necklace from Topshop
Cap by LA Dogers (Baseball team)
Bric's Handbag

Purple Converse

So back to the cricket.. well I cant tell you much because I wasn't paying great attention to the game.  Instead I sat next to Niquitta (friend) and rabbited about all things current.  The atmosphere was amazing and we did join in on the woops and cheers when South Africa got 'out' the opponents, and not to mention the mexican wave that circulated the stadium.

Phil and Andy in our seats in the stadium

One of the best things about Newlands Stadium was the veiw we had of Table Mountain right behind the cricket ground.  The only problem we had was that we were in the sun.  After drinking beers and diet cokes, munching on biltong and being burnt to a cinder, we left the stadium with a South African victory.

The Kitchen and Andy

This is my boyfriend Andy.  We have been together for three and a half years. Ever since I started this blog, Andy has asked why he has not featured.- Although he says this is a jokey way, I know he secretly wants to be championed for his dress sense.  One of the things I love about Ands is how he looks after himself. He dresses well and he takes care of his body: this only results in a very polished good looking guy ... in my opinion anyway.

So a few weeks ago Andy and I trotted along to my favourite eatery called The Kitchen in Woodstock, Cape Town. The Kitchen is a beautiful little cafe/ restaurant which prides itself in beautiful salad platters and 'the Love Sandwich'.  The cool and quirky people of Cape Town come here for a quick lunch time plate of different salads and meats, (take away optional) or a Love Sandwich. Just to explain quickly- the love sandwich was dubbed its name because it is made with love- they take some of the doughy bread filly out and replace it with their homemade red pestos marinated meats and fresh fresh greenery. As sarnies go they are cracking.

Andy and I came for breakfast.  So whilst we sat there drinking our coffee from vintage mugs, I told Andy that today was his day: I was going to take a few photos to share on my blog.

Top: Topman
Shorts: Country Road
Sunglasses: Ralph Lauren
Watch: Hugo Boss
Shoes: Converse

Shoes under the table: Andy's high top grey converse; my metallic and leather Kurt Geiger Lucca Plimsoles.

The Kitchen Breakfast: Scrambeled egg with chives on top, sliced avocado, rye toast, bacon, and a mini salad with gherkins and homemade dressing.

If you are visiting Cape Town be sure to visit this little place.  It won't disappoint. The lovely thing about this cafe is the people who run it. It was created by a woman called Karen Dudley who is passionate about her food.  Every time I have been in the Kitchen, she personally greets you and even remembers your name. Her staff obvious love her and it has a real sense of family and friendship.  I had a lovely breakfast and a delicious coffee whilst sitting next to my stylish boyfriend.  A girl cant ask for much more in a morning can they?
