A Weekend In Madrid

Last weekend my twin and I took a four and a half hour coach journey through the countryside of Spain, from Valencia to Madrid. Although both cities are Spanish, Madrid and Valencia are not similar.  Madrid is bigger, dirtier and basically a big city.  I can easily say that I prefer Valencia. The metro was confusing in Madrid, the people looked sad and everything was a bit more expensive (my generalisation). Although we had loads of fun visiting the city and supporting our friends in the Madrid Marathon, we were glad to get back to the pretty buildings, friendlier people, sweet side streets and gorgeous shops of Valencia.  The highlight of the trip was seeing friends who we hadn't seen in ages. But aside from friends there were two things that made Madrid: The Central Market and the Flamenco Show we went to.

Here are some pictures of the market.

To be a Twin

Here is an article I wrote for Her Campus a year ago about being a twin...

Dopey guy: “Bloody Hell you two look alike! Are you twins?”

My sister and I in unison: “Yeh…”

Dopey Guy nudges his meathead friend with a grin and loudly whispers “Mate, mate, their twins. Twins!”

Dopey guy then looks to my sister and I and says; “So what’s it like to be a twin? Do you do everything together?”

Meathead friend also pipes up giving away his thoughts; “Do you, like… bath together and stuff?”

This male reaction to seeing identical twins started occurring from the tender age of twelve years old. When I was young, insecure and had little self-confidence this conversation and all of its innuendo’s would make me nervously giggle. We were getting attention from BOYS for looking alike. So depending on their attractiveness we would occasionally flirt back, revelling in the newly found attention. However, as I’m sure many of you have discovered through the teenage years of relationships, hook-ups and heartbreaks, not all attention is good attention.

Now, with a bit more self-awareness and appreciation and a better understanding of our male counterparts, when this conversation arises both my sister and I know that dopey guy and his meathead friend either have ‘THREESOME’, or ‘BUY ONE GET ONE FREE’ in flashing red lights, circulating around their heads.

Loubie Loup: My Twinie's blog

I introduced my twin Laura on a 'style file' back in September. I think Laurie quite liked the whole blogging thing as she has only gone and set up her own.

Being twins people often try and create some black and white differences between us to help them differentiate us as people. For example, Sarah short hair, and Laura Long hair. Laura in blue and sarah in pink.  This has happened from day one. This differentiation continues into our personalities and interests too.  Despite the fact that we both have big interests in fashion and healthy cooking, I have always been known as the twin with the 'passion for fashion' and Laura has been dubbed the amazingly healthy cook.  - what nice things to be known for, dont cha think?

So with my 'fashion-y' based blog, Laurie has now created her own foodie-y blog.  Here is her first post:  Yoghurt Banana Cinnamon and Dark Chocolate Muffins... nom nom nom

Being in South Africa for so long, I not only miss my sister, but I seriously miss her cooking.  I'm looking forward to more posts twinie. XX
